This ceremonial “closing of the bones” is a process of weaving fabric around the torso, offering support to the organs, joints, and bones as they settle back into place and sealing in the energy released from giving birth. Applied within the first week postpartum, it is worn for 10-12 hours daily for 6-8 weeks. Demonstrations for maintaining the binder each week will be provided.
Benefits to belly binding include assisting closure of the diastasis recti muscles, stabilizing relaxed ligaments, lower backache and strain prevention, and supporting the body’s natural spine and posture realignment. Clients who have had a cesarean delivery should wait at least 6 weeks postpartum to ensure healing of the incision prior to binding.
